写真に写っているのは特別な人たちではない。たまたまその日にその場所にいた人たちである。けれど、人は誰もが特別な顔を持っている。立っている姿。こちらを見る眼差し。身につけた服。長い時間を生きてきたことが滲み出るような表情。人はそれぞれ異なる人生を生きている。しかし、その違いを超えて、人間という存在そのものの不思議さがある。上野公園には、行き場を探している人もいれば、誰かを待っている人もいる。理由もなくそこにいる人もいる。私はその人たちの人生を知っているわけではない。ただ、目の前に現れた一人の人間に惹かれ、写真を撮った。この写真集は上野公園の記録であると同時に、人間という存在の記録でもある。
A photobook of strangers met in Tokyo’s Ueno Park, recorded through years of walking these paths, calling out to people, and standing face-to-face. Each portrait gathers an instant of brilliance — the texture of a quiet moment, the personality of someone who has chosen, just briefly, to stand still.
東京、原宿。原宿という曖昧な境界を歩く。竹下通りは、観光客や修学旅行生でいつも賑わっている。表参道にはハイブランドの店が立ち並び、その背後には、裏通りに昔ながらの住人たちが静かに暮らしている。原宿という場所は、さまざまな人々がそれぞれの時間を生きている場所だ。私はそんな原宿をただ歩き、出会った人々に声をかけ、写真を撮る。彼らは私の前に立ち、生きることの素晴らしさ、一瞬の輝き、人間の魅力、そしてすべてを包み込むような生命の力を教えてくれる。
Tokyo, Harajuku. Walking the shifting boundaries of this neighbourhood — from the crowds of Takeshita-dori to the quiet backstreets where long-time residents live beside high-end boutiques. I walk through it, calling out to those I meet and photographing them. They stand before me and reveal the brilliance of being alive, the beauty of a fleeting moment.
